Globes: Trajtenberg: NIS 60b defense budget insupportable
20 August 12 13:41–”The large investments in connection with a war against Iran are behind us. This means that the Iran issue cannot be the main driver for an increase in (defense) budgets in the coming years, and the opposite could be possible. The same is true of the Lebanon front,” wrote Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, the chairman of the Committee on Social and Economic Change and a member of the Brodet Committee, in a letter today.
Trajtenberg continued his criticism of the defense establishment, claiming for the first time, “The Committee on Social and Economic Change recommended almost a year ago to divert NIS 3 billion from the 2012 budget for supplementing social services, most of which was to come from a corresponding reduction in the defense budget. This cut did not occur, which has caused a budget imbalance, the effects of which we clearly see today.”…Read More>>
