Irit Avissar, Globes: Zaken Committee won’t change the banks

The Bank of Israel believes in the Zaken Committee and thinks that it will change the level of concentration in the banking system. In a long report full of clauses, the report also presents how this will be accomplished. But it is hard to say that the committee has provided anything genuinely dramatic.

The committee’s recommendations are a series of measures, mainly small, that are meant to slightly improve the situation for customers, transparency, and handling of small businesses but it doesn’t look like steps that will change the world order. On the fact of it, the recommendations do not look like they will solve the problems of credit allocations, the injustices of financial margins, and nor will they significantly increase competition or reduce concentration in the sector…Read More>>
